Cricket World Cup opening in London

In these days, in which England is celebrating being back on the throne with the best club football teams in Europe, it might be hard to concentrate on other sports, but it is important to remember that on the same day that Arsenal will play against Chelsea in the Europe League final in Baku in Azerbaijan (what a strange place for two London teams to play), it will be time for the Cricket World Cup opening in London.

As we are used to, the opening match of the tournament is attended by the hosting country, that is England. And who will England play against? South Africa!

Looking forward to the cricket world cup in England and Wales.

England – South Africa at The Oval in London

The match between England and South Africa will be played at The Oval in London, a stadium located in the very southern parts of London. Normally the pitch is used by Surrey County Cricket Club, but on May 30th, this will be the venue which will host the opening of the Cricket World Cup in 2019.

The venue has a long history, and it has been the home of the Surrey County Cricket Club since 1845. The venue will be used for quite a lot of matches during the cricket world cup, and together with The Lord’s they will be the stadiums in London which will be used during the world cup. And let us tell you, the match to be played at these stadiums are among the most important… not only the opening match, but also one of the semi-finals and the grand final itself on July 14th.

England are the big favorites to win the tournament itself, and South Africa shouldn’t cause them much trouble. The hardest opponents of England in the tournament will be India and Australia (if the bookmakers tell us the truth), but in a tournament anything can happen, and with the pressure from the home crowd, it will be interesting to see if England will manage to live up to the expectations.

The rest of England’s matches during the cricket world cup

There will be a total of 10 teams taking part in the world cup, and England will play against every single one of them. Here you can see the different matches in which England will play and where they will be.

  • May 30th, England – South Africa, The Oval
  • June 3rd, England – Pakistan, Trent Bridge (Nottingham)
  • June 8th, England – Bangladesh, Cardiff
  • June 14th, England – West Indies, Southampton
  • June 18th, England – Afghanistan, Manchester
  • June 21, England – Sri Lanka, Leeds
  • June 25, England – Australia, London (The Lord’s)
  • June 30, England – India, Birmingham
  • July 3, England – New Zealand, Chester-le-street

As you can see, England will play one match in every city in which there is a venue during the tournament, making sure that all of England get a chance to cheer for their heroes. But, if they make it to the semi-finals, they will either play at Old Trafford in Manchester or in Birmingham, before they return to The Lord’s in London for the cricket world cup final.

The most interesting matches for England will be the match against Australia at The Lord’s in London on June 25th, and of course the match against India in Birmingham on June 30th.

Are you going to follow the Cricket World Cup? Are you coming to London to see any of the cricket matches? Have a great time! For more information about the popular attractions and sights in London, look around here in our London Guide.

Can I use my existing Netflix subscription in England?

I will visit England and London in March 2019. I am frequently using Netflix, and I wonder if I can use my Netflix subscription while in England?

Yes, you can use your Netflix subscription while visiting London. In other words, in between your visits to the British Museum, the Big Ben, and London Eye, you can easily watch Netflix. You should be aware of the fact that you will find different programs and content as you visit England, after all, the Netflix catalog is different in every nation of the earth. As a result, you will find stuff on Netflix in England that you cannot find in your home country (this is good), but you will also discover that some of your favorite content from home cannot be found on Netflix in England.

If you want to know more about what’s coming to Netflix in England I recommend checking out this site sharing news about everything that’s new on Netflix in England.

Can I watch Netflix in the UK?
Can I use my Netflix subscription in England?

One of the hottest shows currently available on Netflix in England is Suits season 8. It cannot be streamed in any other Netflix region, only on Netflix in the UK, so if you haven’t caught up with this season yet, make sure to stream it on Netflix while in England. Maybe you will miss Meghan Markle as you stream the eight season of Suits, but if you are lucky, maybe you can catch sight of her as you walk by Buckingham Palace in London instead?

If you come from within the European Union

If you have a Netflix subscription in a country within the European Union, the things described here will not work. How come? It is a new regulation that you bring with you your “home-region” whenever you visit another EU country. That is a bit complicated, but there are ways to fix this as well (if you really want to get access to English Netflix). If you want to do so, you can, for example, follow the instructions in this video or in this article!

One little advice from us is to not only visit the Netflix website while in England, but check out the BBC and the ITV website as well. Since these websites are blocked if you live outside England, you will suddenly be able to enjoy all the contents of these sites while in England. And at the BBC website you can, for example, stream The ABC Murders (a brand new Poirot series starring John Malkovich), you can stream the fantastic BBC series named Bodyguard (for which Richarcd Madden received a Golden Globe award), and if you are ready for some laugther you should stream all five seasons of Cuckoo at the BBC website.

At the ITV website, you can stream Britain’s Got Talent and other great and original ITV content.

In other words – You can use your existing Netflix subscription

For a long time, we thought that you needed a new Netflix subscription as you visited another country. Another popular service in England is Amazon Prime. If you have a subscription to their services in England and travel abroad, you will no longer be able to enjoy the benefits of your Prime membership in England anymore, even if you visit the United States (in which they also sell Amazon Prime subscriptions). Luckily Netflix doesn’t operate in that way, meaning that you can bring your Netflix subscription along as you visit London, with the only difference that you will see the local British catalog instead of your home catalog.

Do not forget to be a London tourist and not just a streamer

We hope you will enjoy your stay in London, and do not spend too much time in the room watching Netflix. You can do so when you go back home as well. Spend as much time as possible outside discovering London and eating some local food!

Missing England? This is how to stream BBC abroad!

Have you been to London and England and now you miss BBC? Would you like to stream BBC iPlayer in your home country as well? It can be done!

There is little doubt about the fact that BBC is one of the best TV networks in the world. On our list of favorite BBC shows you can find Sherlock, Cuckoo and lots of other programs. But, if you try to stream these shows and lots of other BBC content in the BBC iPlayer when outside England you will simply get an error message. That can be really annoying, but luckily there are ways in which you can still get access to BBC when abroad. The following instructions are based on the guide in the IP Address Guide.

BBC iplayer outside London

How to stream BBC abroad

In order to stream BBC when outside London and England, you will need to make BBC believe that you are in the UK. This can be achieved through using a working VPN provider and connect to one of their VPN servers in the UK. Unfortunately not all VPN services work for this purpose, but at the time writing there is one working. If you read this article in a long time from now, we suggest that you visit the IP Address Guide to read their article, which is updated frequently (something this article most likely will not be). At the moment, this is how it can be done.

  • Visit the BBC iPlayer.
  • Sign up and create a new user. Register it with a UK ZIP code, for example NW2 1LP or E14 9SJ.
  • Confirm your email address with BBC iPlayer.
  • Sign up for the VPN services of ExpressVPN.
  • Download their VPN client and connect to a server in the United Kingdom.
  • Visit the BBC iPlayer again and you are ready to stream.

If you follow these instructions you should be able to stream BBC iPlayer in a few minutes from now. It is really easy, and you will get access to lots of program from the iPlayer library, and also to live streams of all the BBC channels, including the children’s channels.

Is it hard to find free Wi-Fi in London?

I am a bit worried. I will go to London before Christmas and need to work from my laptop during my stay. Is it hard to find free Wi-Fi in London?

Traveling to London for work and leisure at the same time is more and more common. In fact not only people doing business travel is in need of Wi-Fi / Internet access, but it is just as important for normal travelers in these days. After all, what are you supposed to do with all those images saved to your phone? You are for sure supposed to upload them to Instagram and Facebook and maybe send them to your family at home using WhatsApp. It can however be a very expensive activity to send high resolution images like that using a 3G or 4G connection. For that reason you need to use a Wi-Fi connection, making sure that you will not be charged for the data you use. So, how can that be done? Is it hard to find free Wi-Fi in London?

How hard is it to find free Wi-Fi in London?

It is just as hard to find a free Wi-Fi in London as it is to see red buses. Is that hard? No, not at all! It is very easy to find free Wi-Fi in London, but you should be aware of the fact that free Wi-Fi often comes at a cost. What do I mean?

If you decide to grab a cup of coffee in Starbucks while in London you will be offered free Wi-Fi. But, to be able to enjoy the free Wi-Fi you will have to buy your coffee first, and that ain’t free. If you visit a restaurant you will need to order first and then you can use the free Wi-Fi. So, it comes for free, but you will often have to purchase something first in order to use the free Wi-Fi available at the place.

The same is true with hotels!

Most hotels come with free Wi-Fi available for their visitors. A general advise is to check out this as you book your hotel. Read through the hotel policy when it comes to Wi-Fi, and check out whether it is free or if you have to pay extra for this. Often hotels will charge you a lot for Wi-Fi (if it isn’t included), so make sure to check it out before you book your room.

Now you might just want to enter into a hotel to use their Wi-Fi, but normally it doesn’t work that way. The Wi-Fi code to the hotel network is normally written down inside the hotel rooms themselves, meaning that they do not have open and free networks, but password protected and encrypted networks. If you ever meet a hotel with free open Wi-Fi you should however be careful actually using that, because such connection are easy to interrupt and people with bad intention can take use of your confidential data. If you hotel is using an open Wi-Fi network without password protection, we suggest that you use a VPN to remain safe! You can read more about VPN connections and services here.
